A tribute to you – solo female traveler

So my last two months or so on the road was on my own. I always think that I’d rather travel on my own than not at all so I guess for me the choice has always been easy. And I’ve done it so many times now. I have friends spread out everywhere and alone is never really alone. But some people you meet has this misconception of solo travelers like the German guys telling me “oh you travel alone you must read so many books” or “but you must know someone there (when I talk about where I’m going next)”. Well I read because I like it no matter if I’m on my own or not. Alone does not equal lonely. I’m lucky because I don’t mind my own company but you meet people all the time when you travel. You don’t have to sit on your own reading unless you want to and you can go somewhere you don’t know people because everyone wants to be your friend.

It’s also nice to be your own person, don’t get me wrong I love traveling with Pax or with friends. It’s amazing to have someone to share all those moments with or to have someone just keep an eye on your bag when you have to go to the toilet at that busy train station. But traveling solo makes you step out of that comfort zone more and people treat you differently to. Suddenly you’re not just 50% of that couple or one of those European girls or whatever your crew happens to be. You get to be 100% yourself and all those connections you make are yours. And the last two months I’ve made a lot of those and I’m so stoked about it, especially all the cool solo female travelers that’s come my way and I know we’ll share travels together again. Lots of love 🙂

Things I forgot about home

After nine months or so on the road I’m back in Sydney! Went for a walk to check the waves this morning and omg it’s more crowded than Kuta Beach or any Bali surf break for what looks like really average close out waves. The difference is that the surfers here can actually surf, ha ha 🙂 I totally forgot about the weekend crowd though, there’s like a million of people in the water. But the ocean looks amazing, the water is so clear! No more murky river mouths for me. Also enjoying flushing toilets and hot showers, ha ha, it’s good to be back for summer, hope it heats up a bit to!

Girls surf trip to the jungle

I’m back in Indonesia (oh ja again) and last week me and this super awesome fantastic cool crew went for a surf trip to the jungle. Three girls, one rasta man, tropical waters, empty reef breaks, fun peeling waves with just us on it, camping in the jungle, trips to magic caves, nasi gorengs, mangoes and bloody white coffee. I’m so happy and all surfed out but ready to go back again ha ha. I’ve had the time of my life 🙂 Thank you Ulrikke, Silke and Maruf, you’re all legends let’s do it all again soon!

We live  in a fast paced world, with so much information about climate change & food, there are people saying this is right and some other people saying that is right, so it makes it hard to know what to think.

Here are two documentaries that has help me to think for myself. Watch them and make up you own mind. Some of you will love them and some will think its all !@#$%^&* but thats up to you..

The Big Smoke – Stockholm

Today I went to the big smoke of Sweden, Stockholm and man it wasn’t a let down. Stockholm has to be one of the prettiest city I have seen. I knew it was going to be a great old european city, but it was next level.  I walk around for a bit until we ended up on this lookout that over looked the city, I was so amazed to see such a view.

One thing I found a little funny about the swedes is that they don’t say hi to each other, even if they are looking  right at each other (what the).. So for this crazy kiwi that says hi to everyone even if they are look the other way, I found a little weird. I think they thought i was a little crazy or on something, but a Kiwi got to do what a Kiwi got to do..

The photos of the people on the bike from the 1940’s was not from a ride in a time machine, it was (I’m guessing) some bike ride though the city and everyone dress up and rides bikes from that era.

The you know what blows my mind the most about Stockholm? Bands,  like real bands come to play there. When we where walking round the streets of Stockholm I’ve seen a poster or Tame Impala, thats so crazy that anyone come this far. (Just joking Sweden has lots of great music and bands).

My Human Family

36372_121957181180813_121956711180860_109275_6023093_nI have been cruising the roads of the world now for a while, and in this time I have meet so many amazing people. These people have been from all corners of this planet, some white (or pink after sun), black, some from the west and some from the east, some with long hair and some with none. Some can speak so many languages & some like me just one. I have meet people from all major religions and and some with no religion at all. With all the people I have meet over my travels 99.9% of them have been amazing people, that would help me out with whatever I needed, from watching out for me in the surf, sharing their food to giving me a place to stay for free with no alternate motive. Why do you i think they do this for some crazy kiwi boy they don’t really know?? I think it’s because when we take our ego out of it, it’s not them and us, it’s just us our human family looking out for each other, as they would like me to do if they come to my home town in need of a place to stay and food to eat. So next time you see someone that’s not from your neighborhood you should go say hi, you might have an amazing conversation, or make a friend, with you human brother of sister.. Just a thought that’s all xxUnknown-1

Words Of Wisdom

“A jug fills drop by drop.”

So true. Life is about baby steps, and patience. Anything worth having is worth waiting for, and this teaching serves to remind us that life is all about the little things.

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.”

Essentially, our thoughts become our actions. Filling your mind with positive thoughts results in positive actions.

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

Harboring hate and resentment lowers your quality of life, not the person you are resenting. We are all human, and we all make mistakes. Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?”

Actions speak louder than words. You can talk about doing great things and having high ambitions, but unless you act on them, that is all they are: words

“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”

Self discipline, self control, and self awareness are all essential elements to living a good life. There is no one in this world holding you back, except for you.

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.”

Being thankful is the direct result of appreciating what you have. Appreciating each day for the opportunity simply to live it. You didn’t get to where you are, so be thankful for the experiences – good and bad- that have brought you to where you are.

“It is better to travel well than to arrive.”

Never stop moving forward. life is all about making the best of it, and as soon as you settle, you stop learning, growing, and achieving.

Jet lag In Halmstad At 5am

After a 38 hour flight to Sweden from the land down under (Australia) there was one thing I needed more then anything else, that was SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP.  So after trying to stay up for as long as possible i finally went to sleep about 6pm,  after sleeping for a good 10-11 hours i was ready to start my european adventures . The only thing is it was 4:30 am, the thing is, everyone in europe is sleeping at that time, and won’t get out of bed till at last 10am. So what will a KIWI boy that likes to get up at sunrise do at 5am with jet lag and no friends??? He takes out his camera and takes some photos of Halmstad for the blog…

Some Swedish beauty

So after four months in Indonesia I’m back in Sweden for some catch ups and family time. Lucky me my hometown is right by the ocean with a small surf scene that never existed when I grew up here (or at least I never knew). But last night I got to enjoy some ocean time with one of my favourites. Pure Swedish bliss. I might have missed the summer here but they say September is the month for surf (before the ocean freezes :))
